'Warrior' (1860)

Scale 1:24. A plan showing the midships half-section of the broadside ironclad 'Warrior' (1860). The plan includes a horizontal section [plan view] of the side at the Portsill, illustrating the composition of the ship's side at the level of the gunports. The plan is entitled 'Midship Section of the Iron Cased Frigate Warrior (as built)'.

A note on the plan reads 'Made by Mr. Graff under Mr. Baskcombe's instructions' ['Graff' has been crossed out in red ink and replaced by 'Dunn', as has the original date to be replaced by January 1862]. The drawing is signed by both W. B. Baskcombe and James Dunn. No information is currently available concerning these two. Neither appears in the Navy List for the period, but it is known that Baskcombe was appointed by the Admiralty to oversee the construction of Warrior at Thames Iron Works at Blackwall, and that James Dunn was a draftsman. The 'Graff' originally referred to in the note is James Graff, Draftsman First Class at the Admiralty at this time.

Plans NPO0904 and NPO0903 are very similar to this plan and are probably copies.
