Diamond Jubilee Naval Review Teutonic (1889)

A bound album, badly damaged and now loose leaves. The album was photographed, printed and engraved by Stan Waterly & Co. Most of the plates measure 9"x11". One plate of Turbinia is missing from the contents 9/3/1983.

Large album printed for private circulation containing 50 photogravures of the Diamond Jubilee Naval Review. Includes portraits of Queen Victoria and Thomas Henry Ismay, guests and crew and groups of stewardesses, cooks and bakers. Ships included are Oceanic (1870), HMS Victorious (1895) and HMS Renown (1895)

Built by Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line, the Teutonic was launched in 1889 under the Auxiliary Armed Cruiser Agreement. She left Liverpool to attend the Naval Review at Spithead but was not present at the actual Review. She was taken over for Armed Cruiser duties during the First World War and was broken up in 1921.

The copy of this album was presented to Captain (later Rear Admiral Sir) H H Stileman RN from the managers of the White Star Line, 17th September 1914.
