Stoke Bridge at the confluence of the River Gipping and the River Orwell, with the barge Memory (1904) berthed alongside the quay.
A good quality image. A view looking across towards Stoke Bridge at the confluence of the River Gipping and the River Orwell. An Ipswich Corporation Brush-built electric tram is crossing the bridge and the spritsail barge Memory (1904) is berthed at the quayside close to St Peters Wharf. The White Lion public house can be seen to the left of the bridge behind a horse and cart.
The electric tramway opened on 23 November 1903. Tram numbers 1-26 were built by Brush in 1903, with numbers 27-36 built in 1904. In the background can be seen one of the many mills facing the New Cut.
