This album contains photographs taken when the Braemar Castle (1898) was converted into a 421 bed hospital ship in service from 1915-1919. Photographs of ships include HMHS Asturias (1908), HMHS Goorkha (1897), HMHS Dunluce Castle (1904) and HMS Cracker (1899). There are also on board views and various officers are represented.
Topographical views include Malta, Salonica, Port Said and Malta. HMHS Braemar Castle (1897) served as a troopship in the Gallipoli campaign and then as a hospital ship from 1915. In 1918 she was sent to Murmansk as the base ship for British and French troops engaged in the Allied Northern campaign. She returned to Russian in 1921 and was the last non Russian ship to leave Archangel with patients. She was later used to transport troops to Turkey and Cyprus during the Turkish/Greek war of 1922.
