Album relating to the early naval service of Colin Richard Keppel (1862 - 1947)

A photograph album with brown leather boards, embossed with "C.K.". There is a book plate. The album contains 34 leaves, with 67 photographs pasted in.

Contents: This album relates to Admiral Sir Colin R Keppel’s service as Flag Lieutenant in HMS Alexandra (1875). There are photographs of HMS Alexandria (1875) and also of HMS Melita (1888). The photographs are predominantly topographical and places include Pola, Zadar (Zara), Kotor (Cattaro), Cetinje (Cettinge), Argostoli, Tangier, Gibraltar, Malta, Genoa, San Remo, Leghorn, Pisa, Florence. There is a scan of Monarch, Keppel's dog.

Admiral Sir Colin Richard Keppel, GCVO, KCIE, CB, DSO was born 3 December 1862 the son of Admiral Sir Henry Keppel. He entered the Navy in 1875, was promoted to Midshipman 1878, Sub Lieutenant 1884, Lieutenant 1888, Commander 1895, Captain 1899, Rear Admiral 1908, Vice Admiral 1913 and Admiral 1917. He commanded the Royal Yacht in 1905 and was Extra Equerry to four kings. Admiral Keppel died in 1947. Between 1887-1888 he served as Flag Lieutenant to the Duke of Edinburgh, Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet.
