Album relating to naval service of Captain E W E Fellowes (3rd Baron Ailwyn, 1887-1976).

This is a green cloth covered album, with the spine missing, containing 170 photographs glued in. The front cover is loose and has been sellotaped. This album relates to the naval service of Captain E W E Fellowes CBE, from 1917-1920 and includes photographs of the following ships in which he served: HMS Princess Royal (1911), HMS Dreadnought (1906) and HMS Highflyer (1898). There are also photographs of Fellowes and officers and crew of the ships in which he served. Notable personalities include: King George V, Admirals Beatty, Pakenham, and Napier and Captain Chatfield. Events represented include Royal Investiture on board HMS Princess Royal (1911), 26 June 1917 and the surrender of the German Fleet, 21st November 1918. Places include Kuwait, Bombay, Persian Gulf, Muscat and Colombo.

The majority of photographs have been captioned by Captain Fellowes.

Eric William Edward Fellowes, 3rd Baron Ailwyn was born in 1887 and entered the Royal Navy in 1902. He served throughout the First World War in the North Sea and retired in 1934 with the rank of Captain. He was a member of the British Parliamentary Mission to China 1942 and President of the China Association from 1943-1948. He was awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star of China and created CBE in 1963. He died in 1976. The museum also acquired an additional 6 albums covering Fellowes’s career from 1904-1928.
