This is a brown bound leather album with 'PHOTOGRAPHIC SCRAP BOOK' on the front cover. The spine ahs been damaged and repaired with sellotape. There are 49 pages and 69 photographs glued to the pages.
This is a photographic scrap book of South Africa and Madeira in the 1890s.
The album includes the following vessels: Thermoplyae (1891) aground at Sea Point, South Africa; HMS Active (1869) - officers; HMS Monarch (1868), HMS Minotaur (1863), HMS Black Prince (1861), HMS Resistance (1861), HMS Achilles (1863), HMS Lord Warden (1865), HMS Defence (1861), HMS Valiant (1863).
The album includes the following locations: Madeira, St Helena, Sierra Leone, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Plymouth Sound, Gibraltar, Constantinople, Sea Point.
There is also a map of the River Niger, a passport granted by the Turkish government in 1871, Turkish money, and a "page from the Bible taken out of a man's pocket after a Battle on the L.....". The page from the Bible is taken from an unknown battle.
