This album contains photographs relating to the career of Captain Martin Theodore Daniel between 1894 and 1902. Ships represented include Sardegna (1890), HMS Thunderer (1872), HMS Repulse (1892), HMS Dryad (1893), Siddartha (1880) - a barque which was abandoned February 1899 and found June 1900, HMS Melampus (1890), HMS Eclipse (1894), USS Wilmington (1895). Places include Gibraltar, Morocco, Kiel, Majorca, Colombo, Rangoon, China.
Martin Theodore Daniel was born in Ramsgate in 1873. He entered the Royal Navy in 1887 and was promoted to Midshipman in 1889, Sub Lieutenant 1893, Lieutenant 1895, Commander 1906. He retired unfit in 1907 but re-instated as Captain in 1921. Captain Daniel died in 1935. In 1894 he was serving as a sub-lieutenant on board HMS Repulse (1892). He then went on to serve on HMS Eclipse (1894) as a lieutenant.
