Command flag, Rear-Admiral, Japan (1897-1945)
A Japanese Rear-Admiral's command flag made of wool bunting with a cotton hoist and a rope halyard. The seams are machine sewn and finished by hand. The hems at the edges are also hand sewn. The flag is white, with a red border at the top and bottom between which is an eight-rayed, red sun placed in the centre of the flag. This design was in use from 1897-1945.
The flag was acquired via the Naval War Trophies Committee in 1947.
