Carte de la Riviere de la Platta depuis le Cap Ste Marie jusqu'a Buenos-Ayres.

Single sheet. Col. ms. Physical description Note: The paper is watermarked: T Edmonds 1805. Scale: [ca. 1:100 000]. Additional Places: Buenos Aires, River Plate, Argentina. Contents Note: The chart shows the relative locations of Maldonado, Montevideo and Buenos Aires. In 1806 Grenville became an enthusiastic supporter of plans to attack Spanish interests in South America. This manuscript, drawn by a Frenchman, was probably part of the intelligence gathering before the event. Although the popular uprising which expelled the British from Buenos Aires was seen as a humiliation, it achieved the policy objective of destabilizing the Spanish colonies as it gave impetus to Argentina's fight for independence.
