Album relating to the naval service of Yeoman Lawrence Hooley Clarkson (died 1979)
This is a photograph album with green cloth covered boards with a design to the upper cover. The boards and spine are loose. The album contains 37 leaves and 167 small photographs attached by corner mounts. There are are also 38 loose prints (some are duplicates). There are captions.
Contents: This album relates to Yeoman Clarkson’s naval service from 1946 – 48 when he was serving in HMS Amethyst (1943) stationed in Japan. Places include Kyoto in 1947, Hiroshima, Miyajima Island in 1947 and Kure in 1946. There are also many photographs of members of the ship’s company enjoying life in Japan and of Vice Admiral Sir Denis W. Boyd, KCB, CBE, DSC, CinC British Pacific Fleet. Ships include Ise (1916) or Hyuga (1917), Amagi (1943) in 1946, and HMS Amethyst (1943). The ship’s pets are also represented.
