Album relating to the naval career of Commander G. A. Titterton, Royal Navy
This is a brown cloth covered album with a weak spine, binding broken and leaves brittle. The album contains 143 photographs glued to 40 leaves, most photographs are captioned. The album is decorated with daffodils.
Contents: This album relates to Commander George Arthur Titterton’s career when he was serving as a midshipman on HMS Exmouth (1901), 1907-1912. Ships represented include: HMS Arrogant (1896), HMY Victoria and Albert (1899), French Du Chayla (1895) and HMS Exmouth (1901) with groups &c on board, and Spanish Princesa de Asturias (1896), and SS Sardinia (1888) on fire and wrecked, Malta in November 1908. Places include Oban, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Quebec and Malta. There are also photographs of the Messina earthquake, 1908. HMS Exmouth played an important role in bringing aid to Calabrian villages and Titteron was awarded the Messina Earthquake medal for helping in rescue operations. The album includes the visit of King Edward VII at Malta in March 1909, Coronation Review at Spithead in 1911, fire at J.S. White & Co. shipyard at East Cowes in April 1911, G. J. A. Miles as a Lieutenant.
