Rescue of yacht (S.T.V.) Moyana (1899) by Motor Vessel Clan Maclean (1947), recorded 29th July 1956
This is a green paper covered lace held "album", containing 12 photographs glued one to a page. The yacht Moyana was owned by the Sea Change Sailing Trust and having won the first International Sail Training Race from Torbay to Lison in June/July 1956, was returning to England when caught in storm-force conditions. The yacht was begining to become strained and taking on water, and with a shift in conditions was drifting onto a lee shore. A request for the crew and cadets to be rescued was answered by Clan Maclean with Peruvian Reefer standing by. An account of her loss is recorded in the following article:
