Album relating to the career of Midshipman A. C. Price RN, in HMS Hawkins (1917) on the China Station in 1927

This is a black cloth card covered lace bound album containing 117 snapshots glued or tipped in.

The photographs in this album relate to the career of Midshipman Price while serving in HMS Hawkins (1917) on the China Station in 1927 during the Chinese Revolution. Ships include: HMS Argus (1917), HMS Vindictive (1918), HMS Petersfield (1919) and HMS Titania (1915). There are also photographs of officers and crew and of the Shanghai Defence Force; places include Shanghai, Nanking and Hankow. The British, American and French were involved in so far as protecting their citizens against the Nationalist Army commanded by Chiang-kai-Shek.

Alfred Christopher Price was born 7 May 1911 and entered the Royal Navy 15 June 1925. He served on HMS Hawkins (1917) as a midshipman from 15 September 1926. He was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant in 1928 and Lieutenant in 1930. Lieutenant Price was killed when the bridge of his ship, HMS Roxborough was hit by a wave during a tremendous storm off Newfoundland, January 1943.
