'Lowestoft'
Watercolour deicting a seaward view of a cutter or smack at anchor, centre left, and on the right a foundered brig with her sails still up and with boats round it. Inscribed 'Lowestoft. Sept.3.50': one of eight loose items in Edward Gennys Fanshawe's West Indies, North American and Borneo scrapbook (ZBA4855). This drawing cannot be by him, since he was in the Pacific at the time. It also cannot be one of his children, since he only married in 1843 and it is by a practised adult hand: it may therefore be some other member of the family. One possibility is his sister Frances (from 1853, Mrs John Dalling) who was also artistic. [PvdM 2/11]
