Ordnance model; Gun model; Shot garland

Shot garland from a model of a smooth-bore shell gun (circa 1838). The gun barrel has been cast and turned in solid brass, mounted on to the carriage with trunnion clamps, and fitted with a working firing mechanism and sight. The carriage, together with the wheels and axles, are made from several piece of ebony which are held together with brass bolts and spikes. The whole model is mounted on a raised wooden plinth covered with a red felt surrounded by a stained and varnished wooden baseboard. In addition to the brass plaque there is a shot garland containing 13 cannon balls, all of which are made from brass.

The plaque inscribed "Model 8.CH. gun 6 CWT I inch to the foot by G R Palmer.".
