The light battlecruiser Courageous (1916) in 'D' lock, Portsmouth Dockyard
A port quarter view of the light battlecruiser Courageous (1916) of the 1st Cruiser Squadron of the Battlecruiser Force of the Grand Fleet. She is undergoing a refit in ‘D’ lock, Portsmouth Dockyard, in March 1917 and there is snow in evidence. She has been fitted with four sets of mine rails and chutes on the quarterdeck and her scroll board on the after superstructure has been removed. The buildings on the dockside are the Shipwright’s Store on the left and the Present Use Store on the right. The general cargo ship Valentia (1898) is docked in ‘C’ lock in the background. On the dockside behind the Stothert & Pitt crane is a gun turret and slabs of barbette armour.
