Glass bottle with glass stopper, containing black residue. Labelled "Tinct.Bellad". Tinctura Belladonna, a plant tincture. Savory's 1836 'Companion to the medicine chest', p.100 says about it: (list of ‘Vegetable Poisons’): “Henbane, Hemlock, Belladonna, Hellebore, Colchium, &c. produce symptoms very similar to opium, and require the same mode of treatment.” and on p.96: “Plaster, Belladonna. Is a useful local application for the relief of neuralgic and chronic rheumatic pains.”
