A port bow view of the passenger cargo/liner City of Benares (1936) underway, outward bound, off Cape Town, South Africa. The ship has been painted grey during her time in Cape Town, as war was declared on 3 September 1939.

She arrived at Table Bay on 16 September 1939 from Karachi and Mumbai (Bombay) and sailed homeward for the UK on 21 September 1939.
