A stern view of HMS 'Aurora' (1913), a light cruiser, in No. 2 Graving Dock, King George Dock, Kingston upon Hull. Her tripod mast has been fitted, and the deck fitted with rails to take mines during her conversion to a minelayer. In the background are the sheds of Earle's Shipbuilding & Engineeering Co. Ltd.
Aurora arrived at Hull and entered King George Lock on 21 October 1917 where she was refitted as a minelayer. She was moved out of the dock on 10 December into the basin. Aurora left Hull for Immingham on 16 December 1917 and finally arrived back in Harwich in the evening of 17 December. [Ship's Log, TNA, ADM 53/34496]
The negative is slightly under exposed.
