Starboard bow view of HMS 'Aurora' (1913) in dry dock refitting as a minelayer
A starboard bow view of HMS 'Aurora (1913), a light cruiser, in No. 2 Graving Dock, King George Dock, Kingston upon Hull, while undergoing refit as a minelayer. The tripod mast has been fitted, and scafolding boards are suspended aliong the side just below the flare of the bow. Two coal hoists can be seen in the background on the north east side of the Dock.
The floor of the dock is very dark in the photograph.
Aurora arrived at Hull and entered King George Lock on 21 October 1917 where she was refitted as a minelayer. She was moved out of the dock on 10 December into the basin. Aurora left Hull for Immingham on 16 December 1917 and finally arrived back in Harwich in the evening of 17 December. [Ship's Log, TNA, ADM 53/34496]
