A group of 13 wounded soldiers seated on the grass slope facing the camera in the grounds of Kents Green Court, Worcestershire. Two of them are holding croquet mallets, with the croquet balls on the grass in front. In the middle distance to the left is a soldier seated on the ground next to a gramophone on a stand. Standing opposite him is another soldier leaning on a stone pedestal.

Kents Green Court, Worcestershire was Hooper's family home. It is a large, (now) Grade II listed, Georgian house with extensive grounds.

The photographer was serving on HMS 'Aurora' (1913), a light cruiser based in the Harwich Force during World War One. From 27 April to 16 May 1917 HMS Aurora was in Chatham Dockyard being refitted and cleaned. He is not recorded as having left the ship. [ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34996].
