Royal Marines uniform: pattern 1840
Strap of blue wool edged wtih gold lace with a button at the end in the following pattern: domed button, smooth ground with a foul anchor and crown at the centre with sprigs of laurel at the bottom and ROYAL MARINES at the top. There is a very large, rigid metal crescent, the interior of which is of blue padded wool. The underside of the strap and crescent are lined with blue wool and there is a metal clip with the maker's stamp: Linney/23 Regent Street/London.
