Royal Marines uniform: pattern 1840

Strap of blue wool edged with gold lace with a domed button on smooth ground with a fouled anchor and crown at the centre, with sprigs of laurel at the bottom and ‘ROYAL MARINES’ at the top. There is a very large, rigid metal crescent, the interior of which is of blue padded wool. The underside of the strap and crescent are lined with blue wool and there is a metal clip indicating left and right, and the maker’s stamp: ‘LINNEY/23 REGENT STREET/LONDON’.
