Bow
Reverse bow of Asian design, probably Javanese or Indonesian. A basketry grip has been added to the centre of the bow by attaching slips of wood covered with eleven bands of rattan. The grip is secured by a japaned metal cap and an iron band. One end of the bow is split and is reinforced with rattan binding. There are five nicks made in the side.
Part of a collection made by William Kershaw, able seaman on 'John Williams I'. It was originally attributed to the New Hebrides but is clearly of South-East Asian style. Formerly in the collections of the London Missionary Society.
