The stern wake during speed trials for HMS 'Aurora' (1913).
A view of the stern wake taken from the starboard side of the quarterdeck of the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913) during speed trials in the Edinburgh Channel. An officer can be seen sheltering between the after 6 inch gun and the blast screen (covered in splinter matting). The seas are quite choppy which has made the wooden deck glisten with water. The photographer was standing near the after 4 inch gun looking aft.
Aurora (1913) left Dover for Harwich on 20 April 1917 via the Edinburgh Channel and Black Deep. No speed trials are recorded in the log. [Ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34496].
