The light cruiser HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) aground on Cutler Shoal, off Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben.
A starboard broadside view of the light cruiser HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) aground on Cutler Shoal, off Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben. The ship's back was broken, which is evident in the photograph as the midships area around the funnels is much lower than the bow and stern. 'Arethusa' hit a mine on 11 February off Felixstowe and ran aground on the Cutler Shoal when the tow broke.
The Cutler Shoal is a rocky shoal which lies about 2.3 miles E of the entrance to Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben.
The negative has scratches on the lower left area affecting the image.
