The light cruiser HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) aground on Cutler Shoal.

A port side view from the bridge to the stern of the light cruiser HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) aground on Cutler Shoal, off Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben. The midship superstructure around the funnels is under water up to the base of the after searchlight platform and the stern is raised where the ship broke her back. The top of the main mast has broken and is hanging down. Off Arethusa's port bow can be seen the bow of the steam drifter 'Citron' (1911), which was a hired net layer. The photograph shows her port of registry number FR439 and her Admiralty number 2395.

'Arethusa' hit a mine on 11 February off Felixstowe and ran aground on the Cutler Shoal when the tow broke.

The Cutler Shoal is a rocky shoal which lies about 2.3 miles E of the entrance to Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben.
