A port side view taken from a ship's boat close to the rangefinder platform of the light cruiser HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) looking forward. The view is from the searchlight platform looking forward. It illustrates how the break in the ship's back has shifted the stern to starboard. alongside the port bow are two steam drifters, the out one is the Citron (1911). The decks are under water. 'Arethusa' hit a mine on 11 February off Felixstowe and ran aground on the Cutler Shoal when the tow broke.
The Cutler Shoal is a rocky shoal which lies about 2.3 miles E of the entrance to Woodbridge Haven and the river Deben.
