A porcelain figure inscribed on the base 'Midshipman 1790'. He is represented wearing midshipman's 1787-1795 pattern uniform, with white stockings, breeches and waistcoat, blue coat with white patches on the collar and a gold laced black hat. The figure carries a sextant in his left hand and a portfolio under his right arm. One of a series of figures illustrating the development of British naval uniform with the Dresden gold anchor mark on the base.
