In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Enclosure. Unsigned copy of a letter from Jonathan Gunden at Cadiz in which he informs about damage to the LEOPARD on passage and that the PORTUGAL [Pirick] brought in from Algier has been found unfit and broken up at Gibraltar. He refers to copies of orders he has received from Admiral Killegrew for preparing vessels to be moved while he himself should remain at Cadiz. He gives further information about the poor condition of the CROWN MARIA and PUNTOON and his intention to move them to a sheltered place near Pointalls but has been refused permission by the Governor. He is therefore obliged to moor them in Cadiz Bay pending receipt of further orders. He opines that the CROWN MARIA is in such poor condtition that it should not be moved and that the PUNTOON will sink if moored in the Bay. He also complains of being short of men and is attempting to recruit ashore. He points out that he is not a seafarer and begs for further orders as to what he should do.
