The smashed four inch gun on the destroyer HMS Matchless (1914).
A view from the remains of the quarterdeck looking aft on the destroyer HMS Matchless (1914). The photograph shows the smashed four inch gun resulting from the ship hitting a mine and having her stern blown off on 9 November 1915. The photographer was standing on the starboard side of the deck next to the 21 inch torpedo tube and lifebelt rack. The canvas shelters for the watertight stairs are either side of the main mast.
