Sopwith Schneider No. 1557 begin towed by a naval launch to the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913)
The Sopwith Schneider bi-plane seaplane No. 1557 on the water being towed by a naval launch prior to being hoisted aboard the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913). The photographer was on Aurora looking up the River Stour. On the left is Parkeston Quay with the training ship HMs Ganges (ex Minotaur (1863)) moored off the pier at Shotley on the right. Ships can be seen at moorings in the river.
The Sopwith arrived on board HMS 'Aurora' on 24 May and was transferred back to Felixstowe on 28 before being allocated to HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) on 29 May.
The negative has a couple of small water blemishes at the bow of the launch, but it does not affect the image too much.
