Ships of the Harwich Force en route to the Schleswig air raid.
A distant port side view of three destroyers underway in the North Sea taken from the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913). The destroyer second from left is either Mansfield (1914) or Mentor (1914) and the destroyer on the extreme right is either Mastiff (1914) or Meteor (1914) of the Second Division.
A fourth destroyer is steaming the other way showing her starboard broadside. She is described in the original caption as towing a second seaplane, which can just be made out in the image. The same caption suggests that this is part of the raid on the Zeppelin bases in Schleswig, which took place on 25 March 1916. Only two planes returned from that raid.
In the foreground is one of Aurora's guest booms, being used for the paravane.
The negative has some spotting on it.
