An Indian kotia type dhow getting under way in Colombo harbour, Ceylon
A port side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of an Indian kotia type dhow getting under way at Colombo, Ceylon. Her foresail has been set and a small boat is alongside her waist. A wooden box is suspended over the side at the fore end of the poop. Her red ensign has been hoisted. In the right background is the passenger/cargo liner Cathay (1925). The photographer was taking passage on the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time. The image is slightly unsharp. Negatives numbers P34286 and P34290 to P34295 inclusive are of the same vessel.
