Plaque
Silver electrotype plaque of battleship HMS 'Glory', dated 1908.
Rectangular plaque depicting in relief HMS 'Glory', a twin screw battleship of 1899, at sea. The plaque is signed in the top right corner 'F. LUTIGER 1908'. There is a small pierced hole at the bottom right corner and the plaque appears originally to have been part of a box. The plaque was owned by Rear Admiral T. P. H. Beamish CB DL, who had served in HMS 'Glory' as a lieutenant, between 1905 and 1907.
Frank Lutiger, a Swiss artist born in 1871, was responsible for a very similar design for the battleship HMS 'Triumph', on the lid of a silver plated cigarette box signed by the artist in 1916, which was presented to the naval architect Perrett who had designed the ship. In 1915 he sculpted bronze bas relief of Captain E. J. Smith of RMS 'Titanic'.
