The salvage vessel Ranger (1880) at moorings, Harwich
A starboard quarter view of the salvage vessel Ranger (1880) moored off Harwich. The main topmast is out of picture. The angle of the photograph suggests the photographer was in one of the ship's boats. A dinghy is moored alongside the Ranger, close to the after derricks.
Ranger had originally been a composite gun vessel but had been sold in 1892. Secondary sources say that she was hired by the Admiralty as an ammunition hulk between November 1914 and 1919.
The negative has a light scratch running through it and a small spot of emulsion missing from the area of the water.
