H.M.S. 'Hampshire' raft wood fragment
Timber. One piece of packing case with 'HAMPSHIRE' stencilled on and a knot of wood see REL0268.1. With a photograph in an envelope of a raft on a beach. On the back of the photograph: 'Raft from wreck of Hampshire Kitchener's Last Voyage. Flotsam Skaill Bay Aug 1916'. On wrapping paper ' Two pieces of wood belonging to HMS Hampshire'. HMS 'Hampshire' was sunk by a mine off the Orkneys on 5 June 1916. Lord Kitchener was amongst those lost.
