The passenger liner Beltana (1912) under way in the Thames Estuary.
A port quarter view of the passenger liner Beltana (1912), as a troop ship, under way in the Thames Estuary. The photographer was on board the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913). The Beltana was owned by the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co and requisitioned in 1914 to serve as an Imperial and Australian troop transport.
Aurora (1913) was in dock at Chatham from 27 January until 11 February when she arrived back at Harwich having been refitted and cleaned. She later proceeded to Dover on 15 February to provide night defence before returning to Harwich on 23 February. [ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34496]
The photograph is slightly out of focus.
