H.M.S. 'Duke of Wellington' stancheon

Round wooden column pedestal (stancheon) with square plinth at the top and bottom. A brass plate is attached inscribed: 'Evelyn, Duchess of Wellington, from the Duke of Wellington. The first screw man of war 131 guns 1852-1902'. This is presumable Evelyn, Dowager Duchess of Wellington (1855-1939). Her husband, the 3rd Duke died in 1900 and was succeeded by his brother, Arthur Charles Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington (1849-1934).
