Box and lid made from H.M.S. 'Gibraltar'
A round box with a flat base and a turned lid, marked 'W. Mason' on the bottom. A handwritten note inside the lid reads: 'Part of H.M. ship 'Gibraltar' 80 guns. Built by the Spaniards in the island of Cuba- launched in the year 1751 by the name of Phoenix. Captured by Sir Geo. Rodney in the year 1780. Commanded by Admiral Langara. The Admiral's Flag was presented to His Majesty George 3rd by his son Prince William Henry, a midshipman in the Fleet. She was taken to pieces in Pembroke Dockyard 1836.'
