Arab shoe
Arab shoe. A brown leather slipper. The toe end is missing having been blown off during enemy action. Retrieved from Sedd-el-Bahr beach 3pm 25 April 1915, by Sick berth attendant A.J. Gar who was part of a party bringing off the wounded during the Gallipoli Campaign. Diary of 'Queen Elizabeth' Jan-May 1915 '3pm Cutter's crew under Sub-Lieutenant Foley sent to Sedd-el-Bahr fort and brought off more wounded'. A J Gar was a member of the party, he adds 'Sub Lt. Foley, myself and cutter's crew in tow of 'Irresistable' packet boat went in under cover of 15" and 6" broadsides. Got rather uncomfortable nearing shore. Snipers firing from fort and village, forced to withdraw, heavy losses.'
