Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
Head-and-part-shoulders plaster bust of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (hollow back), with a small square base, on a round socle.
Nelson's head is shown turned half to his right, with bare shoulders, disorderly hair without queue, and a curved breast line. The nose was broken off and replaced in the 1960s.
The piece is inscribed on the back: 'Published by L. Gahagan Decr.1st.1839 / Lord Nelson sat to L. Gahagan in 1798.' In this case the publisher is Lucius Gahagan (1773-1855) working from an original or his father, Lawrence.
Another close version of this bust is in the Castle Museum, Norwich.
