Strathmore (1935); Merchant vessel; Passenger liner/cargo vessel

Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of the passenger liner 'Strathmore' (1935), built in 'bread and butter' fashion in the builder’s style. Model is decked, fully equipped, rigged and complete with its original display case. The hull is inscribed with the name ‘Strathmore’ on the port and starboard bows and ‘Strathmore London’ on stern. The two plaques read ‘"Strathmore" built by Vickers Armstrong Ltd Barrow-in-Furness for Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company Length overall 665'-0' Breadth moulded 82'-0' Depth to C deck 63'-6' Horsepower 24, 000 Speed 21 knots Gross tonnage 23, 428’.

Launched in April 1934, the Strathmore’s maiden voyage was a cruise and later was placed on the London to Australia express service. It served as a troopship during the Second World War and reverted to the Sydney service via Bombay in 1949. In 1963 it was sold to John S. Latsis, renamed ‘Marianna Latsis’ and was employed on the Mecca pilgrimage run from Karachi. In 1966 it was renamed ‘Henrietta Latsis’ and was eventually broken up at Spezia in 1969.
