Warship; Fourth rate; 50 guns

Scale: 1:60. A contemporary full hull model of a 50-gun small two-decker (circa 1714), built plank on frame in the Navy Board style. Model is decked, planked, fully equipped and rigged. Fittings include a longboat stowed on the spare topmasts in the waist, guns turned in brass and mounted on fully rigged wooden carriages, a full set of anchors with all their gear and a pair of Jacob’s ladders slung over the stern.

Of particular importance is the rigging since it is virtually all original and includes some features such as the extension of the bowsprit with a jiboom and the squaring off of the fighting tops. This model is one of two in the collection (see also SLR0398) with its original early 18th-century rigging still intact. It is known as the 'Barrington model' because of its unbroken provenance in the family.
