John Wesley (1846); Cargo vessel; Service vessel; Brig
Scale: unknown. A contemporary full hull model of the missionary cargo brig ‘John Wesley’ (1846). The hull is constructed from wood laid plank on frame with the added detail of two planks on the upper whale made from bone. There is a half bust figurehead of John Wesley at the bow, a large windlass on the foredeck and pin rails mounted along the inwales above deck.
The model was supposedly made by the ship’s Master, George Buck.
These vessels supplied and supported the work of missionaries around the world and this particular vessel had a long life as it was photographed at anchor in Double Bay in the state of Victoria, Australia, in about 1914.
