Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the Recorder (1885) made largely of wood with silver plated and gun metal fittings. The hull is painted a brick red below the waterline with a flesh coloured boot topping and black topsides above to deck level. The clipper shaped bow is fitted with a large set of sheaves on an overhanging platform whilst the stern finishes in a rounded counter with a single screw propeller and a rudder with a skeg frame below. Mounted along the black portion of the hull is a decorative nameboard at the bow carved in wood with ten circular portholes and 16 square scuttle portholes running along the length of the hull. At the stern is a decorative gallery and taff rail carved in wood with the port of registry: 'London'. The deck is varnished natural wood with individual planks lined in black ink. At the bow is an anchor, a capstan, davits, and winches. Either side of the foremast is a single ventilation cowling with a red painted hood inside. Between the mast and the bridge is a large rectangular cargo hatch and a smaller circular hatch complete with a wooden grating above. The bridge accommodation block comprises of a two tier bridge wing with guardrails, a binnacle and ship's wheel, and a small rectangular skylight. The panelling, doors and windows are outlined in black ink. Just aft of the bridge accommodation is a single funnel that has been cut down and is finished in natural wood, a single large ventilation cowling with the hood painted red inside, and a long rectangular skylight followed by a double steam winch just forward of the mizzen mast. There is a single double ended lifeboat finished in varnished natural wood rigged on davits alongside the long rectangular skylight. Just aft of the mizzen mast is a circular hatch topped with a wooden grating, a single ventilation cowling painted red inside, a smaller accommodation block with panelled doors, a small rectangular skylight, and a raised companionway finished in varnished natural wood. Alongside the companionway is a small transom sterned lifeboat rigged on a pair of davits. The ship's wheel is mounted on a rectangular steering box with a raised grating floor either side and a single binnacle just forward of the steering position. The vessel name: 'Recorder' is inscribed on the bow. The whole model is mounted on a rear silvered mirror down to the waterline with a birds eye maple panel below the waterline to the base of the case. There is a pair of angled mirrors at either end and a glass plaque secured to the base. The whole model is mounted in a glazed mahogany display case. There is a plaque inscribed: 'R Napier & Sons 1885 "Recorder" 1219 tons reg. 1270 I.H.P.'.
