Buteshire; Perthshire; Passenger/cargo vessel

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the passenger cargo ships Perthshire and Buteshire (1893). The model is made largely from wood with metal fittings. The hull is painted a fleshy pink colour below the waterline with the upperworks to the bulwarks painted black, both of which are divided by a thin white line along the waterline. The black portion of the hull is fitted with portholes, hawsepipe, freeing-ports, and decorative moulding around the counter stern. The lower part of the hull is fitted with a bilge keel amidships, draught marks at the bow and the stern, drawn on with black ink, together with a rudder, and a metal half sectional four-bladed screw. The model is fitted with five wooden laid decks, the planks of which have been marked on in black ink and are finished in natural wood and varnish. Fixtures and fittings include a capstan and anchor windlass, bollards, stanchion rails, two stump masts and a single funnel, a large cargo crane derrick, seven ventilator cowlings, six cargo hatches, and a pair of ship's boats rigged in davits along the boat deck (fittings loose and some missing). The whole model is mounted on a stained mahogany backboard and was fitted with a glaze display case which is now missing.
