Patrol (1903); Service vessel; Cable repair vessel

Scale: Unknown. Model of the cable repair ship Patrol (1903) made entirely in wood with gold plated fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted dark pink below the waterline and black above with gold decoration at the bow. There are two rows of portholes below main deck level. The decks are painted cream and scored to simulate planking. There is cable laying equipment at the bow and other foredeck fittings include a pair of davits, forward raised bridge, ventilators, a capstan and a hatch. The main superstructure is positioned amidships and there is an open promenade on the main deck. The boat deck above has three boats, painted white, all stowed on davits, a single truncated funnel, a bridge house with flying bridge above and several large ventilators. There is a large deck house aft and a steam launch stowed on davits. The double wheel, and its housing, is mounted on a raised platform. The model is displayed in its original mahogany-framed display case, glazed at the front. The backboard is divided at the waterline, the lower half being veneered mahogany and the upper half a surface silvered mirror. Handwritten label pinned to backboard "Cable & Wireless Ltd cable repair ship "Patrol" 2000 Tons".
