Water Lane (1929); Service vessel; Tug

Scale: not calculated. ‘Water Lane’ (1929) was built by Cochrane & Sons of Selby, and operated by the Tilbury Contracting & Dredging Co. Ltd. She was a familiar sight on the Thames for 30 years. Vessels like this provided a vital service, towing ships in and out of the London docks. They were also used to tow trains of dumb barges that were laden with goods up and down the river. Tugs are a perennially popular subject for many modelmakers, particularly those that build working radio-controlled models for use on water.
